The Avengers Assembly
The image with today’s article is an interesting sneak peek that came out of The Licensing International Expo, tweeted by @theonlysq. The Vegas expo is always full of promotional material, and this year’s was no different. Thanks to this tweet, we got our first look at the possible Avengers cast. The artwork for the Joss Whedon directed film, slated for 2012, shows Captain America, Hawkeye, Hulk, Thor, Black Widow, and Iron Man. This is not a photo of the actors in costume, but rather an artist’s rendition of what they will/may look like in the film. I’m happy to see all the heroes they’ve included here, especially Hulk and Hawkeye. I find it a little dismaying that Hawkeye doesn’t have his cowl on, but this is an early look after all and things can change. Either way, it’s a dynamic image that has really got me excited about the possibilities this franchise holds.
Who’s directing The Wolverine?
Originally, Hugh Jackman was going to team up once again with director Darren Aronofsky (they worked on The Fountain together) and do a Wolverine film based primarily in Japan. Then Aronofsky decided that he didn’t want to be away from his family for such a long shoot, and he dropped out. Now FOX has hired director James Mangold (3:10 to Yuma) to pick up where Aronofsky left off. He seems like a solid director that can get the job done, but I have to admit that my hopes have sunk just a tad, just because I think Aronofsky would have done something unique and bold with the character. The Wolverine franchise is a bit tired in my opinion, and I hope they aren’t going to treat it as same old this time around. No word when this film might start shooting.
Superman’s Dad might be Russell Crowe
Yep, the Superman franchise is being rebooted once again, as Warner Brothers tries to recreate its success with the Batman films with their other DC staple. This time, Zack Snyder (Watchmen, Suckerpunch) takes his turn as director, and word came out that Russell Crowe is in talks to play Jor-El, Superman’s Krypton father. This is another interesting addition to an already strong cast, like Amy Adams as Lois Lane, and Henry Cavill as the Man of Steel himself. Hopefully this one will be good and help us forget about that Superman Returns nonsense that we were subjected to a number of years ago.
