The Road to Comic-Con: Masquerade

Posted on July 19, 2011 at 12:35 PM Comic Book Conventions

Where else but Comic-Con can you dress up as your favorite anime hero, do the robot in front of 4,000 people, and get applause for it? Saturday night at the Con is always a blast, because that’s when the Masquerade hits. The Comic-Con Masquerade is one of the most popular events that just gets more popular every year. You’re going to see some fantastic costumes made by fans, and probably some not so fantastic costumes, but that’s why there is a novice category after all! Prepare to laugh and clap for your favorites in both solo and group categories, and I guarantee there will be plenty of surprises, as always. But get there early if you want a seat in the ballroom! Check our info below for more details. And I just want to give an official ComicBooks.com salute to any of you who are participating!

Masquerade Facts:

When: Saturday, July 23rd

Where: Ballroom 20, as well as video screens set up in the nearby Sails Pavilion and 2nd Ballroom Doors open at 7:45, but it is recommended to get there far in advance, because it is an immensely popular event.

How Long: Estimated running time is 3 hours.

The nitty gritty from SDCC: So that no one waits in line for hours only to be turned away when the room fills up, tickets are required for ballroom seating and are given out free beginning at 3:30 PM to people waiting in line, until all have been distributed. Overflow seating will be available in the Sails Pavilion and in another ballroom, where the show will be simulcast on large screens.

Professionals participating in programs at the convention and press members may get their tickets before Saturday afternoon at the Masquerade Desk. Reserved seating is available for special guests of the convention and for the disabled.

No flash photography is allowed, and all photos and video taken must be for nonprofit, personal use only. Flash photography will be permitted only in the Photo Area outside the Ballroom, where contestants pose after their presentations. Photographers wishing a reserved spot in that area should write to the Masquerade Coordinator, as spaces fill up quickly.
