Rumors about Ultimate Spider-Man, an upcoming television series focusing around Ultimate Spider-Man, have been floating around for ages, but Disney XD has finally stamped a date for the series. April 1, 2012, the new Spider-Man animated series will air alongside the new season of The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. With the details that have already been released, Ultimate Spider-Man promises to be more spectacular than some of the previous incarnations of Spidey. Marvel has even gone so far as to label it as one of their new keystones in the Marvel Universal block, so you can bet that Marvel is putting a lot of work and hopes into this frontrunner.
The writing crew includes Brian Michael Bendis, the man responsible for the Ultimate Spider-Man comics, as well as the excellent stories in the New Avengers comics. Paul Dini, well known for his work on the wildly successful and critically acclaimed work on Batman: The Animated Series and Batman Beyond, will also be writing for the series, as will Steven T. Seagle and the Man of Action crew that worked on Ben 10. With heavy hitting names like those working on the cartoon, the web-slinging superhero is bound to have a compelling story to tell this time around.
The crew also includes a pretty impressive cast of voice talent. In the trailer released at the 2011 D23 Expo, Drake Bell performs spot on as Spider-Man/Peter Parker in the snippets we get to hear. J.K. Simmons reprises his role as J. Jonah Jameson and quite frankly, since his portrayal of Jameson in the Spider-Man movies directed by Sam Raimi, it’s difficult to even imagine anyone else playing him in any form of media. Clark Gregg, from the upcoming Avengers movie, will also be adding his voice to the mix.
Anyone who loves Spider-Man, or cartoons, will definitely be checking this new animated series out. Until Marvel releases an official trailer to the public, the best we can do is check out the videos of the people who were lucky enough to witness the D23 trailer on youtube!
