Who Is Spawn?

Spawn is Al Simmons, a highly skilled CIA assassin who was betrayed and murdered, then made a deal with the devil (Malebolgia) to return to the living world so he could see his wife Wanda again. He came back as a Hellspawn — a tormented supernatural warrior bonded to a living, symbiotic necroplasmic suit called K7-Leetha that grants him incredible powers including shape-shifting, necroplasm blasts, and a nearly indestructible cape and chains. The catch? He returned years after his death, his face horribly disfigured, his memories fragmented, and now bound to serve the forces of Hell — though Spawn constantly fights against that dark destiny. Created by Todd McFarlane, Spawn debuted in Spawn #1 in 1992 and went on to become one of the most iconic independent comic characters ever created.
