Captain M'Vina
Jaime Hernandez introduced Captain M'Vina to readers of Love and Rockets in 2002, planting this character firmly in the rich, character-dense world that Fantagraphics and the Hernandez brothers had been nurturing into one of alternative comics' most celebrated corners. With a run concentrated in the early 2000s Modern Age and a tight circle of co-stars — including Lily Lillard, Debra Lillard, and the memorably named Lola Falana Junior — Captain M'Vina inhabits exactly the kind of idiosyncratic, human-scaled storytelling that makes Love and Rockets essential reading. Six appearances may be a compact footprint, but in Jaime Hernandez's hands even a brief presence carries real weight, and any character born from that creative vision is worth seeking out.
