Who is Don Uggie Apelino?

A Bronze Age original from the pages of 2000 AD, Don Uggie Apelino made his debut in issue #39 back in 1977, conjured up by the legendary partnership of John Wagner and Mike McMahon during one of British comics' most gloriously anarchic eras. Fleetway's flagship anthology was already a phenomenon, and Don Uggie carved out a niche within it — sharing those wild, inventive pages with the likes of Judge Dredd and the wonderfully named Walter the Wobot and Joe Bananas. Across annuals, Sci-Fi Specials, and the main weekly, this character popped up over an impressive span stretching all the way to 2010, a testament to the enduring, eccentric universe that 2000 AD built. A small but genuine piece of British comics history — exactly the kind of deep-cut discovery that makes collecting 2000 AD such a rewarding rabbit hole.
