Kokonainen burst onto the Finnish comics scene in 1989 with the debut issue of Myrkky, a publication from Egmont Kustannus that would prove to be a lasting home for this Copper/Modern Age creation by the duo Dick and Tommy. Over a span of roughly 14 years — across Myrkky and its special editions Myrkky spesiaali — Kokonainen racked up an impressive 103 catalog appearances, sharing pages with a wonderfully offbeat cast including Pera Pervo, Palle Runqvist, Myyntimies Mynttinen, Firkin, and Päätoimittaja. Four of those appearances carry key-issue status, making Kokonainen a genuine collector's quarry within Finnish comics. If you have a soft spot for homegrown Scandinavian humor comics and the irreverent spirit of the late '80s and '90s, this is a character well worth tracking down.
