Who is Wilhelm Schmidt?
A shadowy figure who stepped out of the espionage-charged world of late-1980s Marvel, Wilhelm Schmidt made his mark in the pages of Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. — the Copper Age revival that brought Marvel's master spy back to the forefront. Debuting in the very first issue of that 1989 series, crafted by Bob Harras and Bob Hall, Schmidt enters a world populated by some of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s most compelling figures: Nick Fury himself, the formidable Countess Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, and Alexander Pierce, among others. With only a handful of appearances to his name, he's the kind of deep-cut supporting player that rewards the dedicated collector who loves to dig into the rich, thriller-soaked corners of Marvel's spy mythology.
