Alan Tam
Alan Tam Wing-lun, born 23 August 1950 in Hong Kong, is best known to Western comic readers as a versatile artist and colorist who worked on a range of independent and licensed titles from the late 1990s into the mid-2000s. His most frequent credits appear on Vampi, Vampirella's Vampi, and Vampi Vicious, where he contributed as penciler, inker, and colorist, often collaborating with writer Tom Sniegoski. He also worked on Darkminds, Iron Fist, and Taskmaster for Marvel, bringing a clean, dynamic style suited to both horror and superhero genres. Tam's comic career spanned roughly 1998 to 2006, during which he was credited on 40 issues. In his native Hong Kong, he is far more famous as a Cantopop superstar—a singer and actor who dominated the 1980s music scene with romantic ballads, winning Most Popular Male Artist and IFPI awards for four consecutive years. After publicly quitting award ceremonies in 1988, he shifted focus to mentoring younger artists, earning the nickname "Principal Tam." He remains active in music and film across East Asia, has released 115 solo albums, sold over 35 million records, and holds the Hong Kong record for most solo concerts. His legacy spans both pop culture and comics, though his comic work is a lesser-known chapter of a storied career.
