Alberto Ongaro
Alberto Ongaro (22 August 1925 – 23 March 2018) was an Italian journalist, novelist, and comics writer who sometimes used the pen name Alfredo Nogara. Born in Venice, he entered the comic-book field in 1946 and remained active until the late 1990s, leaving his mark primarily as a writer. He is best known for his long-running collaboration with artist Sergio Toppi on the adventure series *Mister No*, as well as for scripting stories for *Albo Uragano*, *L'Avventura*, and the jungle heroine *Ann van de jungle*. Ongaro also contributed to the *Corto Maltese* universe, notably writing *Corto Maltese - Suite Caribeana* alongside creator Hugo Pratt. His style blended pulp adventure with a literary sensibility, often focusing on exotic locales and morally complex protagonists. Later in life, he turned to prose fiction, publishing several novels. While he did not receive major comic-industry awards, his work on *Mister No* and his collaborations with Toppi and Pratt have secured his reputation as a significant figure in Italian adventure comics. Ongaro passed away in 2018 at the age of 92.
