Azzarello

Brian Azzarello was born on August 11, 1962, in the United States. He emerged as a distinctive voice in American comics during the late 1990s, first gaining widespread attention for the gritty, hardboiled crime series *100 Bullets*, published under DC Comics' mature-readers Vertigo imprint. That series, a sustained collaboration with Argentine artist Eduardo Risso, became his signature work, showcasing his talent for taut, morally complex dialogue and noir-inflected plotting. Azzarello's frequent partnerships with Risso extended to *Batman: Broken City*, *Spaceman*, and the Prohibition-era horror series *Moonshine*. He also formed a key creative bond with artist Lee Bermejo, together producing *Batman/Deathblow*, *Luthor*, *Joker*, and the adult-oriented *Batman: Damned*. Azzarello contributed to the *Watchmen* prequel project *Before Watchmen* and co-wrote *DK III: The Master Race*, a sequel to *The Dark Knight Returns*. His writing stints include a notable run on the long-running Vertigo series *Hellblazer* and a controversial yet acclaimed relaunch of *Wonder Woman* as part of DC's New 52 initiative. He has received multiple Eisner Awards for his work.
