Barb Rausch
1941–2001
Barb Rausch, born Barbara Ann Rausch in 1941, was a Los Angeles-based comics artist and writer whose career spanned from 1983 to 1997. She is best remembered for her extensive work on licensed and romance titles, particularly *Barbie*, *Vicki Valentine*, and *Barbie Fashion*, as well as contributing to *Katy Keene Special* and *Disney's Beauty and the Beast*. Rausch also lent her talents as an artist, colorist, inker, and letterer to the adventure series *Shanghaied: The Saga of the Black Kite*. Her style was clean and expressive, well-suited to the whimsical yet polished world of fashion and fantasy comics. She collaborated with writers and artists on these titles, though her solo credits as both writer and artist highlight her versatility. Rausch passed away in 2001. While she did not receive major industry awards during her lifetime, her steady output across two decades helped define the look of character-driven, all-ages comics in the 1980s and 1990s. Her legacy endures in the fondly remembered pages of these series, where her craftsmanship brought warmth and detail to every panel.
