Benjamin Marra (born 1977 in Halifax, Nova Scotia) is a Grammy-nominated American illustrator and comic-book artist best known for his raw, punk-inspired black-and-white comics, primarily self-published under his imprint Traditional Comics. His drawing style echoes artists like Paul Gulacy, Herb Trimpe, and Spain Rodriguez, as well as pinball machine graphics. Marra’s artistic training began at the School of Visual Arts, where he studied under David Mazzucchelli and counted Dash Shaw as a classmate; he later traveled to Florence, Italy, in 1998 to study painting. His work has appeared in *Playboy*, *Rolling Stone*, *The New York Times*, and Marvel Comics, and he drew the cover art for Lil B’s mixtape *6 Kiss*. Marra’s signature titles include *All Time Comics: Crime Destroyer*, *All Time Comics: Bullwhip*, *Bloodstrike*, *Captain Victory and the Galactic Rangers*, *Jesusfreak*, and *Night Business*. He also works as a web designer for Major League Baseball Advanced Media. Marra’s approach—deliberately raw and emotionally direct—has earned him a devoted following, though he has not received major industry awards. His legacy lies in championing a DIY, gut-level aesthetic that prioritizes impact over technical polish.
