Blutch
b. 1967
Christian Hincker, known professionally as Blutch, was born on 27 December 1967 in Strasbourg, France. He emerged as a leading figure in French comics from the early 1990s, recognized for his expressive, fluid linework and atmospheric storytelling. Blutch’s path into comics began with a formal art education, and he quickly gained attention for his distinctive style—a blend of loose, almost sketch-like drawing with a keen sense of color and mood. He is best known for his work on the *Lucky Luke Hommage* series, as well as the fantasy series *Peplum* and contributions to the *Donjon Monsters* universe. His collaborations with writers such as Joann Sfar and Lewis Trondheim have been particularly notable, yielding inventive and often surreal narratives. Among his signature creations is the autobiographical *Der kleine Christian*, a tender reflection on childhood. Blutch’s career spans over two decades, with credits as artist, colorist, inker, letterer, and writer on 19 issues between 1999 and 2025. His influence on modern bande dessinée is substantial, and he has received multiple awards, including the prestigious Angoulême Grand Prix, cementing his legacy as a master of the medium.
