Bob Kanigher
Bob Kanigher was born on June 18, 1915, and died on May 7, 2002. An American comic book writer and editor, he is best known for his long tenure on *Wonder Woman*—taking over scripting from creator William Moulton Marston—and for steering National Periodical Publications' war comics line. He created the character Sgt. Rock, a gritty infantryman who became the face of *Our Army at War*. Kanigher also scripted the story widely regarded as the start of the Silver Age: "Mystery of the Human Thunderbolt!" in *Showcase* #4 (October 1956), which introduced the Barry Allen Flash. His career spanned five decades, with credits including *Star Spangled War Stories*, *Sgt. Rock*, and *Detective Comics*. Kanigher's style was direct and action-driven, often focusing on soldiers and superheroes under pressure. He collaborated frequently with artists such as Joe Kubert on war titles. Among his notable co-creations are the war characters the Unknown Soldier and the Haunted Tank. Later in life, he continued writing into the 1990s. Kanigher received an Inkpot Award in 1985 and was inducted into the Will Eisner Award Hall of Fame in 2002.
