Brian Herbert
Brian Patrick Herbert was born on June 29, 1947, in the United States. He is best known for his stewardship of the *Dune* universe created by his father, Frank Herbert. Rather than following a single path into comics, Herbert’s career began with original novels such as *Sidney’s Comet* and *Prisoners of Arionn*, and he co-wrote *Man of Two Worlds* with his father. In 2003, he published the biography *Dreamer of Dune: The Biography of Frank Herbert*, and he has also edited collections like *Songs of Muad’dib* and *Notebooks of Frank Herbert’s Dune*.
Herbert’s signature work in comics is his long-running collaboration with Kevin J. Anderson, adapting the *Dune* saga into sequential art. Together, they have co-written numerous comic series and graphic novels, including *Dune: House Atreides*, *Dune: Blood of the Sardaukar*, and several *Edge of a Crysknife* installments. Their partnership has produced over a dozen issues between 2020 and 2025, with titles like *Dune: Edge of a Crysknife: Hiding Among Harkonnens* and *Dune: Edge of a Crysknife: Rage of Shai-Hulud* expanding the lore. Herbert also created a concordance for the *Dune* universe from his father’s notes, though it remains unpublished.
Now in his later years, Herbert continues to shape the *Dune* franchise through comics and prose. He has not received major industry awards, but his work has kept the *Dune* mythos alive for new generations of readers.
