Budd Root

Budd Root was born in 1958 and is best known as the creator of the independent comic *Cavewoman*, which he published through his own company, Basement Comics (later Amryl Entertainment). Root is recognized as a leading figure in the "good girl" art tradition, with a style often compared to that of Art Adams. His career in comics began in the early 1990s, and from 1993 to 2010 he served as artist, writer, inker, colorist, and letterer on over thirty issues. His most credited works include *Cavewoman: Rain*, *Cavewoman: Reloaded*, *Cavewoman: Pangaean Sea*, *Cavewoman Meets Explorers*, and *Cavewoman Jungle Tales*. Root's signature work centers on the adventures of a prehistoric jungle heroine, blending dynamic action with detailed, expressive figure work. He collaborated primarily with himself as a one-man creative force, though the *Cavewoman* series occasionally featured guest artists and writers. Root's later life saw him continue to produce new *Cavewoman* stories and reprint collections. While he did not receive major industry awards, his work has remained a staple of independent comics and a touchstone for fans of the good-girl genre.
