Yoshiyuki Okamura, better known by his pen names Buronson and Sho Fumimura, is a Japanese manga writer born June 16, 1947. He made his debut in 1972 and first gained notice with the hardboiled detective series *Doberman Deka* (1975–1979), illustrated by Shinji Hiramatsu. Buronson is best known as the creator of the post-apocalyptic martial arts epic *Fist of the North Star* (1983–1988), drawn by Tetsuo Hara, which became one of the best-selling manga of all time with over 100 million copies in circulation. He later collaborated extensively with artist Ryoichi Ikegami on series such as *Heat* (1998–2004), which won the 2002 Shogakukan Manga Award for general manga. In 2021, Buronson received a Special Award at the Saito Takao Awards for his ongoing contributions to the medium, including his mentorship of younger artists. His work is characterized by gritty, high-stakes storytelling and a focus on stoic protagonists in extreme settings.
