Carey Pietsch
b. 1988
Carey Pietsch (born Caroline Elizabeth Pietsch, November 11, 1988) is an American cartoonist and illustrator best known for adapting the hit podcast *The Adventure Zone* into a series of graphic novels and for her work on *Lumberjanes*. Raised in a literary household—her father, Michael Pietsch, is CEO of Hachette Book Group—she came to comics through webcomics, self-publishing the queer fantasy series *Keepsakes* and its companion stories *Gleam* and *Rift*. Her style, marked by clean linework, expressive character designs, and warm, saturated colors, made her a natural fit for the collaborative, character-driven tone of *The Adventure Zone* graphic novels, which she has drawn, colored, and lettered since 2018. She also contributed as an artist and colorist to BOOM! Studios’ *Lumberjanes*, where her affinity for energetic, inclusive storytelling shone. Pietsch’s work frequently centers LGBTQ+ characters and found family, a signature she brought to her *Adventure Zone* adaptations. Active in the industry since 2014, she has been nominated for multiple Eisner Awards for her work on *The Adventure Zone* series. She continues to live and work in the United States, balancing graphic novel projects with personal illustration and convention appearances.
