Christian De Metter
Christian De Metter (born 1968) is a French comic book artist best known for his atmospheric, painterly style and his adaptations of literary and film properties. Born in France, De Metter entered the comics field in the early 2000s, quickly establishing himself as a versatile artist, colorist, inker, letterer, and occasional writer. His most acclaimed work includes *Shutter Island*, an adaptation of Dennis Lehane’s novel, and *Scarface*, based on the classic film. He also drew *Swinging London* and *Piège nuptial*, and contributed to the French series *Tot ziens daarboven* (based on Pierre Lemaitre’s novel). De Metter’s signature style blends moody, expressionistic linework with rich, subdued colors, often evoking film noir and psychological thriller tones. He has collaborated with writers such as Matz and Fabien Vehlmann. His adaptation of *Shutter Island* earned him a nomination for the Angoulême International Comics Festival Prize for Best Series. Active from 2004 to 2025, De Metter remains a respected figure in Franco-Belgian comics, praised for bringing a cinematic sensibility to the page.
