D. Bruce Berry
D. Bruce Berry was an American comic book artist best known as the inker of Jack Kirby’s 1970s series. Born Douglas Bruce Berry on January 24, 1924, in the United States, he entered the industry later than many peers, with his first credited work appearing in 1964. Over a career spanning nearly six decades, Berry contributed to 96 issues as an artist, inker, and letterer. His most frequent collaborations were with Kirby, where his clean, steady inks complemented Kirby’s dynamic pencils on titles such as *Kamandi, the Last Boy on Earth*, *Our Fighting Forces*, *OMAC*, and *Batman*. He also worked on *Capitaine America* for the European market. Berry’s style was precise and unobtrusive, making him a reliable partner for high-energy artists. He died on September 30, 1998. While he did not receive major industry awards during his lifetime, his work on Kirby’s 1970s output remains a key part of that era’s visual identity.
