D. J. Coffman
1976–
D. J. Coffman, born Donald Jesse Coffman on January 17, 1976, is an American cartoonist best known for creating the comic book series *Hero by Night* and the webcomic *Yirmumah*. He began his career in the early 2000s, working across multiple roles as artist, inker, letterer, and writer on a range of titles. Coffman’s most recognized work includes *Hero by Night*, a superhero series he wrote and drew, as well as contributions to *Monkey Man Unleashed* and the *Crackurz Super Special*. He also collaborated with writer Brian Lynch on the *Monkey Man* series, which included a webcomic hosted on Kevin Smith’s MoviePoopShoot.com. His style blends clean, expressive cartooning with a knack for character-driven storytelling, often in lighthearted or offbeat superhero settings. Other credits include *Super Hero Happy Hour* and the *Hero by Night Free Comic Book Day Edition/Gunplay Preview*. Coffman’s active period in print spanned roughly 2002 to 2008, after which he continued to produce webcomics. While he has not received major industry awards, his work remains a fondly remembered example of early-2000s independent comics.
