Dave Wenzel
David T. Wenzel, born November 22, 1950, is an American illustrator and children's book artist best known for his graphic novel adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's *The Hobbit*. Wenzel's path into comics began in the mid-1970s, and his career in the field spans from 1976 to 2019, with credits as artist, colorist, and inker on over a dozen issues. His most prominent work for mainstream comics appeared on titles such as *The Avengers*, *The Mighty World of Marvel*, and the *Avengers: The Korvac Saga* collection. Wenzel's style is detailed and atmospheric, well-suited to both fantasy landscapes and superhero action. Beyond his comic work, he built a strong reputation as a children's book illustrator. His graphic novel of *The Hobbit*, published in 1989, remains his most celebrated achievement, bringing Tolkien's Middle-earth to a new generation of readers. While his comic output is relatively small, his adaptation of the classic fantasy novel has secured his legacy as a key visual interpreter of the source material. Wenzel has not been a frequent award-winner, but his work on *The Hobbit* is widely respected for its faithfulness and craft.
