David Barbour
Sir David Miller Barbour (28 December 1841 – 12 November 1928) was a British civil servant and writer, primarily known for his administrative career in British India rather than for comic book work. Born at Calkill House near Omagh, he was educated at Omagh Academy and Queen’s College Belfast before placing sixth overall and first in mathematics in the Indian Civil Service examination. His entire Indian service was in the Finance branch, culminating as Financial Member of the Viceroy’s Council under the Marquess of Lansdowne. He was knighted as a Knight Commander of the Order of the Star of India (KCSI) and later received the KCMG in 1899 for financial services to the British government. Barbour also chaired the Royal Commission on London Traffic from 1903 to 1905. He wrote on monetary issues and was an Irish loyalist. In our catalog, he is credited as a writer on 11 issues from 1990 to 1997, with most-credited titles including *Gunfighters in Hell*, *Gothic Nights*, *Zero Tolerance*, and *Spring Heel Jack* and its sequel *Spring-Heel Jack: Revenge of the Ripper*. He was the father of Nevill Barbour.
