Denise Mina is a Scottish writer born in Glasgow in 1966. She first gained widespread attention with her debut novel *Garnethill* (1998), which won the Crime Writers’ Association John Creasey Award for best first novel and launched a trilogy featuring survivor Maureen O’Donnell. Over the following decades, she became a central figure in the Tartan Noir movement, praised by fellow crime writer Val McDermid as "crime writing royalty." Her 2019 novel *Conviction* was selected for Reese’s Book Club, and her 2025 work *The Good Liar* examines forensic junk science. She also wrote the non-fiction *The Long Drop*, about a 1958 Glasgow murder trial.

In comics, Mina wrote for *Hellblazer* for a year, contributing to the John Constantine series, and adapted Stieg Larsson’s *The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo* and *The Girl Who Played with Fire* into graphic novels. Her comics work appeared from 2006 to 2018, totaling 18 issues. Beyond novels and comics, she has written plays and presented television and radio programs. Her awards include the CWA John Creasey Dagger, and she remains a distinctive voice in crime fiction and graphic storytelling.
