Dennis Eichhorn
Dennis P. Eichhorn was born on August 19, 1945, and died on October 8, 2015. He is best remembered as the writer behind the raw, autobiographical comic series *Real Stuff*, which he launched in the early 1990s. His work, often dealing unflinchingly with sex, drugs, and alcohol, drew comparisons to the confessional prose of Jack Kerouac, Ken Kesey, and Charles Bukowski. Eichhorn’s path into comics was unconventional; he began writing his own life stories in the late 1980s, collaborating with artists who could bring his gritty, real-world tales to the page. Over his career, he was credited on ten issues, with his most notable titles including *Real Stuff*, *Extra Good Stuff*, *Real Schmuck*, *Real Smut*, and *The Amazing Adventures of Ace International*. His signature style was a frank, often darkly humorous look at his own experiences, and he worked with a rotating cast of artists to illustrate his narratives. Eichhorn’s legacy is that of a pioneer in autobiographical comics, pushing the boundaries of the medium with his unvarnished honesty. He received no major awards during his lifetime, but his influence is felt in the work of later memoirists in the field.
