Dick DeBartolo
Dick DeBartolo, born October 19, 1940, is an American writer best known for his long tenure at *Mad* magazine, where he earned the playful nickname "Mad's Maddest Writer." He joined the magazine in the mid-1960s and remained a steady presence for decades, serving as its Creative Consultant from 1984 to 2009. DeBartolo’s work appears in over fifty issues, including *Mad Special*, *Svenska Mad*, and collections like *The Mad Adventures of Captain Klutz* and *Mad's Don Martin Steps Further Out*. His humor often complemented the slapstick art of Don Martin, and the two became a memorable team. Beyond *Mad*, DeBartolo wrote for the game show *Match Game* during its 1960s and 1970s heyday. He continued contributing to *Mad* well into the 2020s, maintaining a career that spanned six decades. While he did not receive major industry awards, his consistent output and distinctive voice made him a fixture in American satire.
