Elliott Caplin
Elliott Caplin was an American comic strip writer, born on December 25, 1913, and died on February 20, 2000. He is best remembered as the co-creator, alongside artist Stan Drake, of the long-running newspaper strip *The Heart of Juliet Jones*. Caplin was the younger brother of Al Capp, the famed creator of *Li'l Abner*, though he carved his own path in the medium. His career in comics spanned from 1945 to 1990, during which he wrote for a variety of titles, including *Big Ben Bolt* and the Swedish publication *Seriemagasinet*, as well as contributions to *A Treasury of Comics* and European editions like *Juliette de mon Cœur*. His work often focused on serialized drama and romance, with *The Heart of Juliet Jones* standing as his signature achievement for its nuanced character work and emotional depth. Caplin’s collaborations with Drake produced a strip noted for its sophisticated storytelling and clean, expressive art. While he never achieved the same level of fame as his brother, his steady output and co-creation of a beloved comic classic earned him a respected place in the industry. His name occasionally appears with an extra letter as Elliott A. Caplin.
