Felipe Smith
1978–
Felipe Smith (born 1978) is an American comic book writer and artist of Jamaican and Argentine descent, best known for creating the Robbie Reyes incarnation of Ghost Rider. He first gained international attention with *Peepo Choo*, a manga series that debuted in 2009 in Kodansha’s *Morning 2* magazine, notable as the first manga created and serialized in Japan by a Western creator before being licensed for an English-language release. Smith’s path into comics began with his own independent work, leading to his breakthrough at Marvel, where he co-designed and wrote the new Ghost Rider, Robbie Reyes, a Latino teenager from East Los Angeles. His signature style blends manga-influenced linework with American superhero storytelling, often in collaboration with artists like Tradd Moore. Beyond *Ghost Rider*, Smith contributed to *Captain Marvel* and *Transformers* titles, including *The Transformers: More Than Meets the Eye Official Guide Book* and *Transformers Armada: Free Comic Book Day Edition*. His work on *All-New Ghost Rider* helped redefine the character for a new generation. Smith’s career spans from 2003 to 2021, with his most credited work on *Ghost Rider* and *Ghost Rider Robbie Reyes: The Complete Collection*. While he has not received major industry awards, his legacy lies in bringing diverse representation to mainstream comics and breaking cultural barriers in manga publishing.
