Gary Reed
Gary Reed (born 1956, died 2016) was an American comic book writer and publisher best known for his long-running independent horror series *Deadworld*, which he launched in the late 1980s. He began his career in comics in 1989, and over the next three decades wrote more than fifty issues, with his most frequent credits including *Deadworld*, *Baker Street*, *The Red Diaries*, *Seeker*, *Raven Chronicles*, and *Troy*. Reed often worked with artists such as Vince Locke and Sam Kieth, and his writing leaned toward dark, character-driven genre stories, blending horror, mystery, and historical fiction. He co-created the zombie-apocalypse world of *Deadworld*, which became a cult favorite and helped define the independent horror boom of the early 1990s. Later in his career, he explored literary adaptations and original series, including a Sherlock Holmes-inspired take in *Baker Street*. Reed also served as a publisher, overseeing several small press titles. He passed away in 2016, leaving behind a body of work that influenced a generation of independent horror and supernatural comics.
