Gary Shipman
1966–
Gary Lee Shipman was born on March 16, 1966, in the United States. He is best known as the creator, writer, and artist of the all-ages fantasy series *Pakkins' Land*, a labor of love that he produced alongside his brother, writer Rhody Shipman. The series, which includes titles like *Pakkins' Land: Quest for Kings*, *Pakkins' Land: Forgotten Dreams*, and *Pakkins' Land, Book One: Paul's Adventure*, follows a young boy's adventures in a magical world of talking animals. Shipman handled the art, coloring, and inking for the books, developing a clean, expressive style suited to the whimsical yet earnest tone of the story. His comics career spanned from 1987 to 2006, with credits on about thirty issues, including work on *Edge* and *Tempest*. A father of three, Shipman poured a sense of family-friendly wonder into his most famous creation. While he did not receive major industry awards, *Pakkins' Land* earned a devoted following for its heartfelt storytelling and craftsmanship. After the series concluded, Shipman largely stepped away from mainstream comics, leaving behind a modest but distinctive body of work that remains cherished by readers who discovered his gentle fantasy world.
