Gianfranco Manfredi
Gianfranco Manfredi was born on 26 November 1948 in Italy and died on 24 January 2025. He is best known in comics as a writer for the long-running Italian western series *Tex* and the horror-mystery series *Dylan Dog*, contributing to both over nearly three decades. His path into comics was unusual: he first gained prominence as a singer-songwriter, composer, and actor before turning to screenwriting and cartooning. In the 1990s, he began writing for *Dylan Dog*, and later became a key scribe for *Tex*, including its oversized *Tex Gigante* editions. He also created the supernatural western series *Magico Vento* and the adventure series *Adam Wild*, both for Sergio Bonelli Editore. His writing style blended pulp adventure with historical and folkloric depth, often collaborating with artists like Corrado Mastantuono and Bruno Brindisi. Among his notable co-creations is the character of *Magico Vento*, a Native American shaman in the Old West. Later in life, he continued writing for *Tex* and *Dylan Dog* until 2023, and his work earned him several industry awards, including the prestigious Yellow Kid and the Gran Guinigi. His legacy is that of a versatile storyteller who brought a musician’s rhythm and a scholar’s curiosity to Italian comics.
