Jacob Pander
1965–
Jacob Pander was born on January 26, 1965. Along with his brother Arnold, he forms the collaborative duo known as the Pander Brothers. They are best recognized for their moody, atmospheric artwork on series like *Grendel: Devil's Legacy*, *Batman: City of Light*, and *The Batman Chronicles*, as well as the creator-owned title *Girlfiend*. Pander entered comics in the mid-1980s, working primarily as an artist and inker. His most frequent collaborator was his brother Arnold, with whom he shared a distinct, shadowy style that lent itself well to both superhero and horror-tinged narratives. Their work on Matt Wagner's *Grendel* universe is among their most celebrated, particularly the *Devil's Legacy* storyline. The brothers also contributed to *Triple X*, *Carvers*, and the anthology *Grendel: Black, White, and Red*. Pander's career in comics was largely concentrated between 1986 and 2001, after which he and his brother shifted focus to filmmaking. While the Pander Brothers did not receive major individual industry awards, their collaborative body of work remains a distinctive part of late-20th-century independent and mainstream comics.
