Jason Starr
Jason Starr was born on November 22, 1966, in New York City. He is best known as a crime novelist who also wrote comics, particularly for Marvel. Starr began his career writing gritty crime fiction and thrillers, winning the Barry Award for Best Paperback Original for *Tough Luck* (2003) and the Anthony Award in the same category for *Twisted City* (2005). His graphic novel *The Chill* took the first-ever Anthony Award for Best Graphic Novel in 2011.
In comics, Starr wrote for Marvel’s mature-readers *Wolverine Max* series, as well as the DC miniseries *First Wave Special*. He also created the original graphic novel *Casual Fling* and contributed to the anthology *Upshot Now Magazine* and the crime comic *Red Border*. His work often explores dark, psychological territory, blending noir sensibilities with superhero and horror elements. He has collaborated with artists such as Dalibor Talajić and Roland Boschi.
Starr is part of a literary circle that includes Ken Bruen, Ed Brubaker, and Megan Abbott. His writing style is lean, tense, and character-driven, favoring morally complex protagonists. He remains active as a novelist and screenwriter, with his comics work spanning from 2010 to 2021.
