Mark King
Mark King is best known in comics as a letterer, a craft he plied across nearly four decades. Born in 1958, he was active in the industry from 1986 through 2014, with the bulk of his credited work appearing in the pages of the British anthology *2000 AD*. He contributed to that title on 38 issues, also lettering for its spin-offs *2000 A.D. Showcase* and the collected *Zenith Phase I* and *Zenith* series. King’s clean, consistent lettering provided the visual foundation for the bold, satirical science fiction and superhero stories that defined the magazine’s heyday. While his name is less widely known than the writers and artists he supported, his steady hand helped shape the reading experience of a generation of British comics fans. Details of his personal life remain private, and his later career is not widely documented. King’s legacy is that of a reliable, behind-the-scenes contributor whose work ensured that the words of creators like Pat Mills and John Wagner were presented clearly and with impact. He received no major public awards, but his decades-long tenure at *2000 AD* marks him as a dedicated figure in the lettering community.
