Mark Shainblum (born 1963 in Montreal, Quebec) is a Canadian writer best known for his work in science fiction and comics. He began his comics career in the mid-1980s, gaining attention for his contributions to the Canadian superhero landscape. Shainblum co-created *Northguard*, a patriotic hero who debuted in the 1980s, and wrote for the character's conclusion in *Northguard: The ManDes Conclusion*. He also contributed to the *Captain Canuck* franchise with *The New Original Captain Canuck Limited Edition*. Beyond superheroes, Shainblum adapted Michael Moorcock's fantasy novels into comics, writing *Corum: The Bull and the Spear* and *The Chronicles of Corum*, part of the Michael Moorcock Library series. His style balances pulp adventure with thoughtful characterization, often collaborating with artists like Gabriel Morrissette. Shainblum also worked as a journalist and editor, bringing a literary sensibility to his comic scripts. Active from 1986 to 2020, he wrote 23 credited issues. Now living in Ottawa, Ontario, Shainblum's legacy lies in his role in shaping Canadian comics, particularly through his creation of *Northguard* and his adaptations of Moorcock's work. He has not received major awards, but his contributions remain significant in the small-press and independent comic scenes.
