Matt Madden was born on May 8, 1968, in New York City. An American comic book writer, artist, and educator, he is best known for the experimental work *99 Ways to Tell a Story: Exercises in Style*, which showcases his interest in narrative structure and formal play. Beyond his alternative comics, Madden has also worked extensively as a colorist in mainstream comics, contributing to titles such as *Startling Stories: The Thing - Night Falls on Yancy Street*, *Captain America: Dead Men Running*, and *Soldier X*. His career in the industry spans from 2002 to 2022, with credits as an artist, colorist, inker, and writer on 16 issues. Madden has taught comics at the School of Visual Arts and Yale University, influencing a new generation of cartoonists. His other notable works include *B-Sides* and *Django, Hand On Fire: The Great Django Reinhardt*. Madden’s legacy lies in his ability to bridge experimental storytelling with commercial coloring work, and his contributions have been recognized within the alternative comics community.
