Noah Van Sciver
b. 1984
Noah Van Sciver, born July 7, 1984, is an American cartoonist known for his raw, emotionally direct independent comics. Raised in New Jersey, he broke into the scene in the mid-2000s, self-publishing minicomics before gaining wider notice with his ongoing series *Blammo*. His most celebrated creation is the cynical, delusional aspiring writer Fante Bukowski, a character he developed across multiple graphic novels, including *Fante Bukowski* and *The Complete Works of Fante Bukowski*, which earned him an Eisner Award nomination. Van Sciver’s style blends a loose, expressive line with a keen eye for human awkwardness and failure, often exploring working-class struggles and personal history. He has collaborated with publishers like Fantagraphics and drawn for anthologies, but his strongest work remains his solo projects. In recent years, he has continued to produce graphic novels and short comics, including the autobiographical *Disquiet*, while residing in Columbia, South Carolina. His influence is felt among a generation of cartoonists who value vulnerability and unfiltered storytelling over polished superheroics.
