Pascal Garray

Pascal Garray was a Belgian comics artist and cartoonist, born on 12 December 1965 and died on 17 January 2017. He is best known for his work on Peyo’s *The Smurfs* and *Benoît Brisefer* (known in Dutch as *Steven Sterk*). Garray entered the comics field through his collaboration with the Peyo studio, where he became a key artist on these beloved series. His style is characterized by clear, expressive linework and a faithful adherence to the classic Peyo tradition, making him a natural successor to the franchise’s visual legacy. He worked closely with other Peyo studio artists, including writer Yvan Delporte, to continue the adventures of the Smurfs and the young superhero Benoît Brisefer. Garray is credited as artist, inker, and writer on 17 issues between 1993 and 2018, with his most prominent titles being *Die Schlümpfe*, *Benni Bärenstark*, and *Steven Sterk*. His later life remained dedicated to these characters, and his contributions helped maintain the continuity of these iconic series for a new generation of readers. While he did not receive major individual awards, his work is recognized for its consistent quality and devotion to the source material.
