Pedro Henry was the pen name of British comics writer Steve Moore (11 June 1949 – 16 March 2014). He is best remembered for his inventive, often surreal scripts and for mentoring a young Alan Moore (no relation) in the craft of writing comic scripts, a debt the more famous Moore has acknowledged. Born in London, Moore entered comics through the music press, collaborating with Alan Moore under joint pseudonyms—his own being Pedro Henry, with Alan using "Curt Vile"—for the weekly *Sounds*. There, they created the character Axel Pressbutton, a violent, robotic-armed enforcer who later headlined stories in the anthology *Warrior* and a standalone series from Eclipse Comics. Moore’s signature work as Pedro Henry includes the *Laser Eraser and Pressbutton* strips, collected and expanded in the 1980s, as well as contributions to the anthology *A1* and the space-comedy *Space Album Bug Hunters*. His scripts blended dark humor with science-fiction grit, often in collaboration with artists like Alan Moore and John Hicklenton. Later in life, Moore continued writing for small-press and European markets, though his output slowed. He received no major industry awards during his lifetime, but his role as a foundational influence on British comics—particularly through his early partnership with Alan Moore—has been increasingly recognized by historians.
