Peter Ledger
1945–1994
Peter Ledger was an Australian artist whose polished airbrush work and vivid color sense made him a sought-after illustrator in both comics and commercial art. Born on 25 October 1945, he began his career in advertising before moving into comic books, where his clean, precise style lent a distinctive sheen to fantasy and science-fiction stories. He is best known for his contributions to *WeirdWorld*, *Marvel Super Special*, and the German-language series *Die großen Science-Fiction-Comics* and *Etranges Aventures*, as well as work on *Howard the Duck* and *Krieger der Geisterwelt*. Over his active period from 1979 to 1987, he was credited as artist, colorist, and inker on sixteen issues, often collaborating with writers and editors who valued his ability to render otherworldly landscapes and characters with a luminous, almost photographic clarity. Ledger’s technique—combining traditional pen-and-ink with airbrushed color—set his pages apart from the standard comic-book look of the era. He died on 18 November 1994 at age 49. Though his output was relatively brief, his work remains admired for its craftsmanship and its bridge between commercial illustration and sequential art.
