Phil Interlandi
Phil Interlandi (1924 – June 28, 2002) was a cartoonist best known for his long-running contributions to *Playboy* and his work for *Mad* magazine. Born in Chicago, Illinois, he was the twin brother of editorial cartoonist Frank Interlandi. Phil Interlandi’s career in comics spanned from the 1950s into the 1970s, during which he contributed to a number of humor anthologies. His most frequently credited titles include *Playboy*, *Like, Mad*, *More Trash from Mad*, *The Brothers Mad*, *Utterly Mad*, and *Care for a Merger?*—the latter a likely reference to his single-panel gags and satirical illustrations. Interlandi’s style was clean, witty, and often absurd, fitting the irreverent tone of the publications he worked for. He collaborated with the *Mad* stable of artists and writers, though his name is less prominent than some of the magazine’s core contributors. While his brother Frank gained fame as an editorial cartoonist for the *Des Moines Register* and *Los Angeles Times*, Phil carved out a niche in the more risqué and comedic side of cartooning. He lived in Laguna Beach, California, for much of his later life. Interlandi’s legacy rests in his steady, unflashy contributions to two of the most influential humor magazines of the 20th century.
