Philippe Bercovici
b. 1963
Philippe Bercovici is a French comics artist best known for his long-running gag series *Les Femmes en Blanc*, which he began drawing in 1981 with writer Raoul Cauvin. Born in 1963, Bercovici entered the Franco-Belgian comics scene with remarkable speed and versatility. Early in his career, he used the pseudonym Thélonius while drawing *Le Boss*, a series written by Zidrou that centered on the editor-in-chief of *Spirou* magazine. His reputation for working at an unusually high pace was cemented in 1999, when he single-handedly illustrated an entire issue of *Spirou* (No. 3183), mimicking the styles of the magazine’s other regular artists to maintain the continuity of ongoing stories. Beyond his signature medical humor series, Bercovici collaborated with writer Benoist Simmat on the 2010 satirical album *Robert Parker: Les Sept Pêchés capiteux*, a sharp critique of the influential American wine critic. Over a career spanning from 1986 to 2019, his credits as artist, colorist, inker, letterer, and writer appear on eighteen issues, with *Les Femmes en Blanc* and its Dutch translation *Vrouwen in 't Wit* among his most frequent titles. Bercovici’s work remains a staple of lighthearted, observational comedy in European comics.
