Ron Embleton
Ronald Sydney Embleton was born on 6 October 1930 in Britain. He built a reputation as one of the finest full-colour adventure strip artists in British comics, with his obituary in *The Times* calling him a grandmaster of his art. Embleton balanced his comics work with a parallel career as an oil painter, exhibiting widely across Britain, Germany, Australia, Canada, and the United States. He was elected a member of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters in 1960 and also belonged to the London Sketch Club and the National Society of Painters, Sculptors and Printmakers.
Embleton’s comics work appeared in a wide range of periodicals, including *Express Weekly*, *TV Century 21*, *Princess*, *Boys’ World*, and *Look and Learn*. His most credited titles in the database include *Penthouse*, *TV21*, *TV Express Weekly*, *Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons*, *Super Detective Library*, and *New Funnies*. He worked across multiple roles—artist, colorist, inker, letterer, and writer—on 54 issues from 1951 to 1993.
His younger brother, Gerry Embleton, also became a well-known illustrator and comics artist. Ron Embleton died on 13 February 1988 at age 57. His legacy endures through the respect he earned from fellow practitioners and the lasting admiration of readers who value the art of the comic strip.
