Ruth Adam
1901–1988
Ruth Adam, born Ruth Augusta King on 14 December 1907 in England, was a journalist and author whose career spanned novels, feminist nonfiction, and comic strips. She is best known for her work in the British girls' comic *Girl*, where she wrote stories in 1960, contributing to 10 issues during that year. Adam's path into comics came from her broader writing background; she had already established herself as a novelist and a commentator on women's issues before turning to sequential storytelling. Her style in comics was narrative-driven, focusing on relatable, often aspirational, female characters. She collaborated with artists on *Girl*, though specific co-creators are not widely documented. Beyond comics, Adam wrote feminist works such as *A Woman's Place* (1975), reflecting her lifelong interest in gender roles. She died on 3 February 1977, leaving a legacy as a versatile writer who bridged popular entertainment and social commentary. Her contributions to comics, though brief, are noted for their thoughtful portrayal of young women.
