Sid Couchey
1919–2012
Sid Couchey was an American comic book artist best known for his work on Harvey Comics' beloved children's characters, including Richie Rich, Little Lotta, and Little Dot. His artwork is remembered for its big, friendly faces and a sharp sense of visual humor that brought these lighthearted stories to life.
Born on May 24, 1919, in Cleveland, Ohio, Couchey developed his craft through the Landon School of Illustration and Cartooning, a correspondence course based in his hometown. He practiced his drawing on the back of his school papers, and counted Milton Caniff's *Steve Canyon*, Alex Raymond's *Flash Gordon*, and illustrator Howard Pyle among his key influences. His professional career in comics spanned from 1961 to 1994, during which he was credited as artist and inker on 29 issues, primarily for Harvey's line of humor titles. His most frequent credits appear on *Little Dot*, *Little Lotta*, and their various spin-offs, including *Little Dot Dotland*, *Little Dot's Uncles & Aunts*, and *Little Lotta Foodland*, as well as *Richie Rich*.
Couchey passed away on March 11, 2012. His work remains a fondly remembered part of the all-ages comics landscape of the mid-20th century.
