James F. Steranko was born on November 5, 1938, in the United States. He is best known for his groundbreaking work on the 1960s superspy feature *Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.* for Marvel Comics, which appeared in *Strange Tales* and later in its own series. During the Silver Age, Steranko infused his sequential art with surrealism, pop art, and graphic design, earning lasting acclaim for his innovations. He also created book covers, authored a pioneering two-volume history of early comic books, and produced conceptual art for films such as *Raiders of the Lost Ark* and *Bram Stoker's Dracula*. In addition to his comics work, Steranko worked as a magician, publisher, and film production illustrator. His credits in our catalog span 1969 to 1998, with notable contributions to *FOOM Magazine*, *Captain America*, *Batman Black and White*, and *Penthouse Comix*. He was inducted into the Will Eisner Comic Book Hall of Fame in 2006, cementing his legacy as a transformative figure in the medium.
