Jean Tabary was a French comics artist best known as the co-creator of the beloved comedic series *Iznogoud*. He was born on March 5, 1930, in France and passed away on August 18, 2011. Tabary began his career in comics in the 1950s, contributing to magazines like *Pilote*. His signature style blended expressive, cartoonish linework with vivid coloring, perfectly suited for the slapstick humor of his most famous creation. Alongside writer René Goscinny, Tabary co-created *Iznogoud*, a satirical series about a scheming vizier constantly plotting to become caliph instead of the caliph—a premise that became a staple of French comics. The character, also known as Isnogud or Iznogood in various translations, appeared in numerous albums and adaptations. Tabary handled art, coloring, and even writing on later installments, with his work spanning from 1966 into the 2000s. He also created the series *Corinne et Jeannot*. Though his output was largely defined by *Iznogoud*, his clean, energetic visuals left a lasting mark on European humor comics. Tabary’s contributions earned him recognition as a key figure in the Franco-Belgian tradition, and his work continues to be reprinted and enjoyed by new generations.
