Tillieux
Maurice Tillieux was a Belgian comics writer and artist, born on 7 August 1921 and died on 2 February 1978. He is regarded as a major figure in post-war Belgian comics. Tillieux began his career in the 1940s, contributing to magazines like *Spirou* and *Robbedoes*, where he developed a clean, expressive ligne claire style. He is best known for creating the detective series *Tif et Tondu*, which he wrote and drew for many years, and for co-creating the popular aviation adventure *Natacha* with artist François Walthéry. His other notable work includes the western series *Jess Long* and the humorous *Tim och Tommy*. Tillieux’s storytelling combined tight plotting with a wry, understated humor, and he was a key collaborator with artists such as Walthéry and Gos. His later years were marked by a prolific output as a writer for other artists, though a car accident in 1978 cut his career short. Tillieux’s influence endures through his crisp, character-driven narratives and his role in shaping the Franco-Belgian comic tradition.
