Timothy Truman
Timothy Truman was born on February 9, 1956, and built a career as a writer, artist, and musician whose work often fused gritty fantasy with a Wild West sensibility. He first made his mark in the 1980s, bringing a distinctive, detailed line to the independent comics scene. Truman is perhaps best known for his long run on *Grimjack* alongside writer John Ostrander, and for creating the post-apocalyptic series *Scout*. Later, he partnered with novelist Joe R. Lansdale to reinvent the Western anti-hero Jonah Hex, giving the character a darker, more supernatural edge. His art and writing credits span over 100 issues from 1984 to 2023, with significant work on *Hawkworld*, *Conan*, *Conan the Cimmerian*, *Hawken*, and *The Black Lamb*. Truman’s style—detailed, moody, and steeped in American folklore—made him a natural fit for sword-and-sorcery and frontier tales alike. He also worked as a colorist, inker, and letterer, demonstrating a thorough command of the craft. Later in life, he continued to produce comics and music, maintaining a dedicated following. While major industry awards are not widely recorded for him, his influence is felt in the blending of genre fiction with a raw, illustrative approach that helped define 1980s and 1990s alternative comics.
